Over 4 lakh plant species is reported to have bioactivity of which only 15000 to 20000 have been screened. To generate more products the Centre has undertaken research in this area with emphasis on quick screening methods to isolate active ingredients.

    • FIRST CRYSTALS OF AZADIRACHTIN
    Crystals of AzadirachtinPreparative HPLC isolation resulted in crystallisation of Azadirachtin A for the first time by late Prof.T.R.Govindachari and his Group.
    Research on Terpenoids  
    The centre has developed expertise on isolation of known and novel triterpenoids from Meliaceae, Rutaceae, Simaroubaceae etc.,
    The major focus is on the
    Preparative HPLC method development for large scale isolation of terpenoids.
    Standard HPLC protocols are available for isolation of more than 30 tritepenoids from following plant species:

    Azadirachta indica leaves, seed oil
    Khaya senegalensis     seeds
    Walsura piscida     leaves
    Dysoxylum malabaricum     bark, leaves
    Samadera indica     seeds
    Swietenia mahogani     seeds
    Xylocarpus granatum     fruits
    Soymida febrifuga     bark
